WIRE uses strong end-to-end encryption and, not the least, is open-source, which in my opinion, makes it way more reliable than other proprietary apps. Despite the "you have to wait 15 minutes for messages to decrypt" slowness in the browser, and the occasional UI bug, the platform fundamentally did what the security community was looking for.
