A trial should not turn into a paid subscription in a way that leaves the customer feeling surprised after the money has already been taken. What makes this worse is the lack of transparency around the end of the trial. If a company is confident in its product, it should make the transition from trial to paid plan absolutely obvious, not rely on billing mechanics that many users can easily miss. In my case, it felt opaque, unfair, and extremely frustrating. This experience seriously damaged my trust in Canva. A premium company should respect customers with clear billing communication, honest reminders, and no ambiguity about when a charge will happen. Instead, I was left with the feeling that the system is built to collect payment first and let the customer deal with the surprise afterward. I do not recommend Canva based on this experience.
